The Birmingham Mail reports on the “shocking” racially aggravated attack of an 11-year-old boy playing on the street in the Acocks Green area of the city last Friday.

The newspaper reports that the boy was innocently playing football with a friend when he was racially abused and beaten up. The boy was rushed to hospital but later discharged after being treated for minor injuries.

Police attended the scene of the incident after the attack in Swanswell Road at around 7.30pm on Friday 21 April. A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault while two other youths also aged 17 were spoken to by officers.

A police spokewoman said the arrested youngster remained in custody and was helping with enquiries.

A witness who passed the scene shortly after the incident told the paper that a “gang of lads” had attacked the victim who was “badly beaten up”. The passer-by said the attack had left him fearing for the safety of his own children.

Anyone with information on the attack should contact police on 101.
