Two men arrested following Britain First mosque protests in East London

Local east London newspaper, The Wharf, reports on the arrest of two men in connection with provocations outside the East London mosque organised by far right group, Britain First.

The group have staged several protests outside the mosque on Whitechapel Road over the past few weeks posting footage from their “mosque invasion” on their website.

Two men have been arrested following a recent protest, a 52 year old on suspicion of assault and the other, a 41 year old male, on suspicion of being equipped to cause criminal damage after he was found carrying a can of spray paint. The local paper notes that neither of the men are from London or local to Tower Hamlets.

As part of their bail conditions, both of the men have been banned from entering London or going within 250m of any mosque in the UK.

Officials from East London mosque have been in talks with the local Labour Mayor, John Briggs, to have the group banned from entering the Borough.

The Chair of the No Place For Hate Forum, Reverend Alan Green, who was present during one of the far right group’s protests and intervened to keep the peace, told the local paper, “The people of Tower Hamlets are rightly offended by and angry at the abusive language and hateful conduct of Britain First in our borough.

“They seek to incite a violent reaction to justify their Islamophobia. Until this incitement is prevented by legal means it is vital that the whole community stands together peacefully.”
