MEND islamophobia workshop with Cardiff Women’s Aid

Categories: Past Event Articles

Tuesday December 12 2023

On 9th November, Cardiff Women’s Aid generously hosted MEND at its office to facilitate conversations around Islamophobia, fundamentals of Islam and the Muslim community with its service users.

The workshop provoked open dialogue around religion, perceptions, divisive media narratives, and racism, shedding light on the pervasive issue of Islamophobia. Attendees, with admirable openness, shared personal journeys, revealing striking similarities and stories that fostered a powerful sense of solidarity and unity. The relaxed atmosphere allowed for conversations to shift into a session of reminiscence and storytelling in how society’s trajectory in south Wales over the last decade and how our surroundings shape our understanding of different communities.

The workshop served as a catalyst for breaking down stereotypes and building bridges between diverse backgrounds. Cardiff Women’s Aid provided a safe space for honest conversations, highlighting the importance of understanding and empathy in combating Islamophobia. The event showcased the potential for collective understanding to create lasting change and promote inclusivity within the community.

Thank you Cardiff Women’s Aid for hosting us and encouraging open dialogue between women from all backgrounds on the issue of islamophobia!
