Nuneaton News and the Coventry Telegraph report on a second suspected “racially/religiously aggravated assault” being investigated by police after a man was racially abused and had an egg thrown at him as he returned from attending the mosque for prayers.
The 41 year old victim was returning from the mosque in Edward Street, Nuneaton when a black Renault Clio drove past him with two passengers, a male and a female. The victim reported racial abuse being hurled at him and an egg was thrown at his back.
Nuneaton police have said that the incident bears strong similarity to an incident a month ago and are appealing for witnesses who were in the area around 9pm yesterday, Monday 22 June.
Insp Keel told Nuneaton News “We would appeal for anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything to come forward, or if they saw the car in the area at the time.”
Police patrols in the area have been stepped up according to the local reports.
The incident comes on the heels of another report in the Coventry Telegraph of a Muslim teenager who was violently assaulted as he walked back from mosque on Sunday after the late evening prayer. The 18 year old suffered a black eye in the assault and police are studying CCTV images and conducted door to door inquiries as part of an investigation into the suspected hate crime.
